Waukegan, Illinois
Dionisio Garcia, 88, of Waukegan, Illinois passed away on Wednesday July 29, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Dionisio was born in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico on March 3, 1927. He was the son of Dionisio Garcia Villa D’Amico and Isabel Hernandez Lara. He married Guadalupe Olvera in 1949. In 1956 Dionisio traveled alone to Chicago from Mexico City in search of work and a better life for his family. After working various jobs for several years he was finally able to bring his wife and two children (Benito and Linda) from Mexico to live with him in Chicago. After the birth of his third child (Connie) the Garcia family relocated to downtown Waukegan, and became owners of a building on Genesee Street. Dionisio worked as a welder for International Harvester Co. and Hough in Libertyville, IL from where he retired. After selling their building in downtown Waukegan, Dionisio and his wife purchased a small home in central Waukegan and remained there until his passing. Dionisio was a courageous and generous man who was very proud of his family. He was a friend to all and his sense of humor and smile will always be remembered.
He was the loving husband to Guadalupe Garcia Olvera; the beloved father to Benito, Linda, and Connie; adored brother to Isabel; and fond uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was also a proud grandfather, great-grandfather, and even great-great-grandfather.
A private memorial Mass will be held to honor and celebrate Dionisio’s life. Arrangements are under the direction of THE MEMORIAL CHAPEL OF WAUKEGAN 1521 Washington Street, Waukegan, Illinois 60085.
